The Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) is a UK-based professional organisation with a very large subscriber base. Its website has tens of thousands of visitors every month, and Amity was tasked with building a functional and reliable website that works for its members.
We underpinned the new website with the Expression Engine content management system; its custom fields and bespoke functionality meant that we could build the site around SfEP’s needs rather than work from a pre-designed template.
SfEP offers a wealth of information and documents as well as access to various courses and events for members. When it comes to registering for events, members can do that – and more – all via the website. They can now log their ‘expression of interest’ in future events, stipulating preferred dates and locations. For SfEP this means that courses can now be organised around member demand, ensuring optimum attendance.
The site’s security settings mean that only logged-in members can access documents and files, protecting SfEP’s intellectual property and encouraging new users to become members in order to benefit from the wealth of materials available.
Potential customers requiring editing/proofreading services can now search the site, which features an intelligent search engine, to match those customers with registered SfEP members that they can hire for their own projects.
To manage the high volume of SfEP member registrations, we integrated Dataware - a third party system – that supports all sign-in, registration, subscription and eCommerce capabilities. This ensures robust membership management at all times, which is fundamental to SfEP’s operations.
